ontology
noun
  1. A rigorous and exhaustive organization of some knowledge domain that contains all the relevant entities and their relations.
  2. The metaphysical study of the nature of being and existence.

ontologize is an online research tool which allows you to easily organise and share information from multiple sources. Automatically manage citations, and contribute to the semantic web.

ontologize was conceived by mhop creative in early 2008, during the development of their local history project Craigends of the 20th Century. Recognising the universal properties of their work, the decision was made to expand the project in to a framework for public use.

ontologize helps users bring together disparate pieces of information. Creates semantic web application that people can use. Influenced by principles of open data, copyleft, etc.

As ontologize is based on universal principles of information science, it is applicable to any field of study. However, the focus of our developers has remained on the local and family history arena, where we see a number of particular benefits:

  • Local history tends to get lost because books on it won't sell as much - it's been overlooked.
  • And there is a lot of knowledge spread around in a community that would be useful to put together. - It's like puting a shattered glass back together.
  • 19th century books becoming available, copyright free.
